My Last Two Day in Valencia
One of the attractions on my list was the Plaza de la Virgen. It was Sunday morning and I had planned to attend Mass at the Valencia Cathedral at 11:00am. I arrived at the Plaza de la Virgen at 10:00am and noticed a church in the plaza. Mass had just started and so I decided to stay. It was a beautiful Mass in Spanish. After the Mass, I took several pictures of the church. I looked back at the front doors to see if I could spot the name of the church, but I did not see a sign. After researching this further, I learned that the name of this beautiful church is the Basilica of Our Lady of the Forsaken.
This basilica was built between 1652 and 1667. It is the only church in the old part of Valencia that was built new and not on an existing parish church or convent.
After admiring the beautiful altar, ceiling frescos, and the organ above the front doors, I noticed two doors on either side of the altar. The first door on the left led to a small chapel. The door on the right also led to another chapel. Both were stunning works of beauty.
My goal for the day was to walk to the plaza in Valencia where the aquarium and art center are located. As I continued this long walk, I saw beautiful flowers, statues, architecture, and a dog walker with four amazing dogs, especially the big black one.
Before long, I was at my destination. Although there were many people visiting each of the buildings, I enjoyed the sights and the beautiful walking paths along the water.
The next day, I set out to explore the Valencia Cathedral. I was particularly interested in seeing the Holy Grail located in the Cathedral’s chapel.
The Valencia Cathedral was beautiful with many side altars and a museum with so many artifacts and paintings.
It was truly a beautiful and relaxing three days in Valencia. There is more to share from this 17-day Spain adventure.
