My 3 Favorite Apps

We are so attached to our phones!  It is very convenient to have apps readily available especially when you travel.  Once you’ve found the app that you are interested in – go to the Play Store or Google Store on your phone and download the app.  This works for both i-phones and Android phones.

In this blog, I’ve listed my three favorite prayer apps.

The Laudate app is Apple’s #1 Catholic app provided by the National Catholic Register.  I first learned about this app from a friend at my church.  I had no idea these things existed.  Ironically enough, I didn’t know the word was Latin.  My pronunciation of this word was laughable to say the least.

Laudate means praise.  On this app you will find the daily Mass readings, daily prayer, daily bible verse as well as the Rosary and Chaplet, Stations of the Cross, and so much more.  I began several years ago saying the Liturgy of the Hours on this app.  I now use the Word on Fire Liturgy of the Hours monthly book.  It is a bit bulky when traveling, however, I like the feel of the book in my hands.  However, for those times when the book is not practical, I go back to the convenience of the Laudate app.

The Amen app is produced by the Augustine Institute.

I love the short meditations on this app that deal with courage, anxiety, mercy, healing, and spiritual growth.  The Topics section on this app include music, rosary, and Lectio Divina.

The phrase Lectio Divina means “divine reading” in Latin.  The five steps to Lectio Divina are:

·        Select a scripture passage upon which to reflect

·        Read the passage – preferably out loud – two or three times

·        Meditate on the word or phrase that stood out to you

·        Respond to God who has been speaking to you

·        Still yourself and rest in the loving embrace of your Maker

My third favorite prayer app was developed by Devoted Coders, LLC and is named Pray Catholic Prayers.

This is a new app for me and focuses on novena prayers.  Novenas are prayers recited on nine successive days.  Novenas help us to open ourselves to God in order to increase our faith and grow in love of God and neighbor.  Because we as Catholics believe in the communion of saints, we ask them to intercede for us as we do here on earth with each other.

Shortly after completing my second book, I discovered that St. Francis de Sales was the patron saint of writers.  This weekend, as I was searching through this app, I discovered a novena to St. Francis de Sales.  I began this novena two days ago.  I am looking forward to learning more about the saints and other novena prayers through this app.

These are my three favorite prayer apps.  What are yours?  Have you used any of the ones mentioned above?  Let me know in the comments below if you use phone apps to pray.
