Movie Review & So Much More!
Many people marvel at my continued solo adventures. I must admit, though, I started with small things before attempting my first solo trip. I first started taking long walks by myself, then I went to a restaurant by myself. That was a very awkward experience at first, but now I truly enjoy it. Going to the movies alone was another step toward solo adventures. I really enjoyed this one the most especially when I realized I did not have to share my popcorn with anyone!
About a month ago, I saw the trailer for the movie titled, Father Stu. The trailer was funny and with the line up of actors, I knew I had to see this one. With Mark Walberg playing the lead role, this had to be a good movie.
The story is about a boxer, Stuart Long, who became a Catholic priest. I found this movie to be very relatable regarding his experiences as a child, young adult, and most importantly, the heartache experienced by his parents. Some people would label this family dysfunctional, but if we are honest with ourselves, we all have a little of this craziness in each of our lives. What is amazing is that God is not intimated by our many flaws. He knows how to get our attention and work with us to turn our lives into what He truly intends for us. I highly recommend this movie. There was some concern that the language in the movie was too vulgar, however, for me, that is what made the movie real. Pain, suffering, and heartache are sometimes difficult to express without colorful language. God works wonders in the life of Stuart Long as He does for each of us if we will say yes to Him.
While watching this movie, I was reminded of another priest story that touched my heart. Father Emil Kapaun was an Army Chaplain and the most highly decorated military chaplain in United States history for his bravery as a Korean POW. Here is a short 5 minute YouTube video on the life of Father Kapaun.
I hope you enjoyed this short video on the life of an amazing man of God. Let me know in the comments below if you have seen the movie, Father Stu and what you thought of it. If you haven’t seen it yet, even if you must go alone, I highly recommend it. Remember, there are benefits to going alone – the popcorn is all yours!
I encourage you to share this post with your family and friends. God bless!
