My Country, ‘Tis of Thee…
As I think of this GREAT holiday – July 4th – the first song that comes to mind is “My Country, ‘Tis of Thee.” Don’t know why that song popped into my head before the National Anthem. The theme of this song, described by a poet and co-founder of the NAACP, is “to rise above slavery and other prejudices, but to remember it so humans can continue to treat others equally.” Oh, how true it is. What we don’t remember, we will repeat!
July 4th celebrates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence which announced our separation from the Kingdom of Great Britain. We must remember all that our forefathers did for us and why they made the sacrifices they did.
Today we live in a crazy world, crazier than most of us have ever seen. Yet, despite it all, the United States of America is the BEST country in the world to live in because of our unique history. All the good times and all the bad times make us the GREATEST in the world. We can’t forget our history and all that has been accomplished by us and for us.
Remember today the uniqueness of this GREAT land. May God always Bless the United States of America!
