Exploring Museums in Oslo, Norway!
There were two museums at the top of my list of things to do in Oslo. The first was the Fram Museum.
Fram is a ship used by Norwegian explorers from 1893 to 1912.
These explorers, including Roald Amundsen, led expeditions in the Arctic and Antarctic regions.
Roald Amundsen was the first to reach the South Pole.
Amundsen, during earlier life expeditions, practiced and learned from nomadic tribes how to travel and survive in the polar regions. Some of what he learned included dog sled driving, igloo building, and food and clothing preferences. This is attributed to his success in his South Pole expedition.
An excellent movie that can be found on Netflix is titled, AMUNDSEN – The Great Expedition. Check out the trailer below and get the popcorn ready – because this is a GREAT movie.
The second museum I visited in Oslo is also featured in a Netflix movie.
KON-TIKI is based on a true story of a Norwegian explorer, Thor Heyerdahl who crossed the Pacific Ocean in a balsa wood raft in 1947 to prove that Peruvians in pre-Colombian times sailed the sea and settled on the Polynesian Islands.
Thor had a crew of five men in the famous expedition that took the world by surprise. Even National Geographic magazine dismissed Thor’s theory and shunned their support for his expedition – that is – until Thor showed them that it could be done!
The original balsa wood raft used in 1947 is on display in the Kon-Tiki museum in Oslo.

I really enjoyed these museums and highly recommend both movies. God puts ideas and thoughts in our hearts and it is up to us to go after those dreams. I am amazed at the determination of both explorers.
What has God put on your heart? It doesn’t have to be a big expedition. I started a blog and wrote a book in my retirement. God has a plan for each of us and as long as we are breathing, it is never too late.
