3 Fun Things to do in NORWAY!

Not including the two beautiful cathedrals I visited, there are three more fun things that I highly recommend when visiting Oslo, Norway.

The first is the Akershus Fortress.  This fortress is a medieval castle built to protect the city of Oslo. It also provided a home for the royal family.

Despite several military battles beginning in 1308, the fortress surrendered without combat to Nazi Germany in 1940 when the Norwegian government evacuated the city in the face of unprovoked German assault in Denmark and other parts of Norway.

My second recommendation is the Vigeland Sculpture Park.

This beautiful park opened in 1907.

Gustav Vigeland is Norway’s most famous sculptor making his debut at the Autumn Exhibition in 1889.

The Vigeland Sculpture Park consists of over 200 sculptures in bronze, granite, and wrought iron – all created by the same sculptor – Gustav Vigeland.

Located near the Vigeland Sculpture Park is my third recommendation – the Royal Palace.

I was lucky during my visit to see the Norwegian army conduct their changing of the guard ceremony.

There is so much to see in Norway.  Stay tuned for another fun day in Oslo and then I’m off to other parts of Norway.

Let me know in the comments below if you have ever been to these sites in Oslo. If you’ve never been to Norway, are you inspired to visit this beautiful country?  Is Norway on your bucket list?
